Darrell's Camera page.

The girls may have purchased an untold number of shoes for this trip, but I made just one purchase, a new camera.  I have a DSL camera with a few lenses, but I did not want to be carrying all that around Italy.  So after months of searching the internet I ended with Lumix made by Panasonic.  I picked it because of the great zoom and wide angle lenses.  Here are some of my favorite places and pictures.

The third day in Italy, Mary and I woke extra early.  I wanted to catch Venice before the crowds, when it was quiet and the sun was just coming up.  The city is bustling; deliveries are being made and streets being swept but most of the tourists are still sleeping.  We had a wonderful morning roaming the canals looking at the beautiful gondolas.  It's amazing to watch the deliveries, all by hand!  The hand carts being hoisted over the bridges and then gently rolled down the other side.  There are some very hard working people in Venice.

This Camera has a fantastic zoom.  Click on the pictures to see what I mean.

John's page has some amazing insight into the Duomo.  Click here to see that.

Mary is looking out at the courtyard of the Doge's Palace .  Another great place to see in Venice.

The Tenuta Le Velette Winery

The countryside of Tuscany is stunning.  Traveling between Florence and Rome, we stopped at the Tenuta Le Velette winery for lunch and a tour.  What a fabulous afternoon.  The weather was warm and sunny and as you can see, I used my wide angle lens to capture the vines with the city of Orvieto in the distance.   Our hostess gave us a tour of the cellar and the small private chapel that was still decorated for a wedding that had been held earlier.  We then had an scrumptious cold lunch of pizza, coldcuts, cheeses and a fabulous Torta della Nonna-all paired with the appropriate wine of course!
